Avard, located just a few short miles west and south of Alva, is a small town with lots of fun history. Purportedly there are “Ghosts in the Gym” which makes Halloween a bit on the wacky side! Five different paranormal teams have conducted investigations and all five have come to the same conclusion: GHOSTS!!! There are photos and EVP's documented.
Each fall, the small community also hosts the Annual Avard Dutch Oven Cook Off & Fall Festival & Art Show with crafts, good “eats” and lots of good fellowship. This event has been sanctioned by the International Dutch Oven Society and is growing each year. If you have an Rv and enjoy boondocking in the country Avard is the place to go.

This community also hosts a “Mountain Man Rendevous” each November, where life of the 1840's is authentically re-enacted through costumes, crafts and competions like tomahawk throwing. For a taste of times gone by, be sure to stop in at Avard the next time you are in the region!
