Culture and Heritage
Woods County supports a wide variety of cultural arts venues and
performances. From art galleries and the annual Nescatunga Arts and
Crafts Show, which is held the first Saturday of June each year, to
theater productions and concerts on the Northwestern Oklahoma State
University campus in Alva, the cultural arts abound in Woods County.
The downtown square in Alva is home to an emerging arts district.
Galleries and an arts education space will soon be a reality on the
square and will join the Runnymede Hotel Cultural Center which is
located downtown as well. Each summer the annual “Picture My Week-End”
photography workshop is held at the Runnymede and brings photographers
from across the country to Alva to share tips and experiences! Arts in
August are sure to please at the annual Old Cowhand Reunion and Freedom
Rodeo. The Western Fine Art and Country Crafts Show is held in the
American Legion Building in downtown Freedom on Saturday of the rodeo
each year. The region’s best professional artists in the western genre
bring their work to this show and sale. In addition to the wide variety
of unique opportunities for outdoor photography in the country, Woods
County’s arts and cultural opportunities are sure to excite the senses.
We invite you to check the calendar frequently to stay “up” on what is
happening with the arts in Woods County. From art to architecture,
Woods County is your arts mecca on the prairie!
