Bats and Bluffs Loop

The Bats and Bluffs Loop features western store fronts and in the American Legion Park you will find a large granite marker which outlines the Cattle Pools of the Cherokee Strip in pre-statehood days.  Thousands of acres of ranchland were leased from the Cherokee Tribe by ranchers who ran millions of head of cattle from the 1870s to the late 1880s.  These early day ranches laid the groundwork for the contemporary way of life for the ranchers of Western Woods County.  Every summer you will find rodeos galore in this part of Oklahoma with Freedom’s PRCA Rodeo held the third week-end of August each year. Each week-end in July, join the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife in the Mexican Free-Tail Bat Watches at the Selman Living Laboratory.  Cool off in the subterranean world of the world’s largest underground gypsum caves at Alabaster Caverns State Park.  Western Woods County is your outdoor photography mecca!
