I never gave much thought to the Little Sahara State Park dunes area until recently when I was invited to meet with a photo-journalist for Sand Sports magazine. After a most wonderful meal and libations at the Cafe Banhof in Waynoka, we went out to see the folks that were enjoying the dunes. Families and individuals from all over Oklahoma and beyond were camped in all manner of abode; from the simple and modest pup or dome tent to million dollar Rv's. It was instantly obvious that these folks were in the throes of a full-fledged love affair of these sand hills and the thrill of full-throttle speed across the dunes to launch into the air for a breath-taking moment was something that I suddenly wanted to experience. I was invited into a pair of eye-goggles and strapped into a rail-buggy or sand-car that was minimalist in nature - tires, seats, chassis and LOUD engine and away we flew to an amazing ride of the dunes! In all honesty I only screamed aloud a couple times. But my fright was so wrapped in a euphoria of thrill that I didn't want to stop! If you have never been to this attraction, before you knock it I say TRY it! You may find yourself having the screaming, thrilling time of your life!
