In May 2010 Alva's Art Camp for Children got it's start. Funded through a grant, the program in collaboration with Northwestern Oklahoma State University and the Adjunct Instructor of History and Fine Arts, Ken Kelsey, forty children from Alva and the surrounding areas were welcomed each day on campus for a week. Those days were filled with all sorts of art projects, from drawing & painting to the more adventurous craft of making their own T-shirts and creating a mosaic covered flower pot. The children brought home finished projects daily and the weekend following the camp some of the pieces were shown publicly at a booth set up at the Nescatunga Arts Festival on the square in downtown Alva. The camp was such a great success that it will become a regular annual event for the summer, for children in Northwest Oklahoma.
NOTE: Art Camp 2011 will be held @ the First United Methodist Church of Alva, 626 College Ave Alva, OK
